In a continued effort to address youth crime and violence, distinguished delegates from St. Kitts and Nevis recently visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London to deepen partnerships aimed at promoting crime prevention through sports. The delegation, led by Naeemah Hazelle, Permanent Secretary to the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, participated in discussions and tours to explore innovative approaches for empowering youth.
The visit underscores the Federation’s ongoing collaboration with Thru Life and Reach One Teach One, organisations committed to fostering social change through sport. This partnership, now in its third year, will culminate in the St. Kitts & Nevis Security Forces United FC Summer Crime Prevention Soccer Camp 2025, a flagship event scheduled for July.
Learning from Global Leaders
The delegation received insights into the impactful work of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, which uses sport as a transformative tool to create life-changing opportunities. Foundation initiatives, designed to engage individuals across diverse communities, align closely with St. Kitts and Nevis’ Youth Opportunities Strategy.
As part of their visit, the delegation toured the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Haringey, gaining a firsthand understanding of how a world-class facility can inspire communities. The venue’s innovative infrastructure and the club’s rich history left a lasting impression on the visitors.
A Shared Vision for Change
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging sports and education to foster positive change. “Sport is a powerful medium for empowering youth and reducing crime,” said Mrs. Hazelle. “Through collaborations like this, we can inspire our young people to pursue their potential while addressing critical issues like youth violence.”
The annual soccer camp builds on the success of previous years by combining high-profile coaching sessions with impactful crime prevention strategies. It aims to develop football talent while teaching valuable life skills to young participants.
Strengthening the Caribbean’s Future
This initiative aligns with St. Kitts and Nevis’ broader efforts to create a safer, more inclusive society by addressing the root causes of youth crime and expanding opportunities for young people. By fostering these international partnerships, the Federation continues to position itself as a leader in using sport for social development in the Caribbean.
The visit to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium further solidifies the Federation’s commitment to creating brighter futures through sports, education, and community engagement.
