Search ongoing for missing Cessna 172 after losing contact in Dominica

Asmall aircraft that took off from the Douglas-Charles Airport on Sunday afternoon is feared missing after losing all communication shortly after departure.

The Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority (DASPA) reported that at approximately 3:46 pm on Sunday, contact was lost with a four-seat Cessna 172, which was en route to the neighboring French island of Martinique.

Emergency response teams from both Dominica and Martinique were immediately mobilized, with search efforts focused around the southeastern community of La Plaine, where radar data indicated the aircraft’s last known location.

As of Monday, efforts to locate the aircraft remain ongoing. DASPA has emphasized that the safety of the passengers and crew is the top priority.

“We are continuing our rescue operations and remain committed to ensuring the safety of everyone aboard,” said DASPA in a statement.

Authorities have assured the public that updates on this developing situation will be provided as more information becomes available.
