Police arrested five suspects and seized three firearms and quantities of ammunition and narcotics during State of Emergency Operations conducted across several divisions on Tuesday.
A TTPS report said in the first instance, North Eastern Division Task Force officers conducted an exercise in the Lower Santa Cruz district, where they arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with a number of Larceny and Robbery offenses.
The same party of officers then proceeded to the Morvant district, where they searched the vicinity of the basketball court. One pistol loaded with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition was discovered. Further searches revealed a Uzi firearm, four wireless sets, and one charger in an old washing machine.
Meantime, officers of the Criminal Investigations Department conducted an exercise between 8 pm last evening and this morning in the St Joseph district, during which they attempted to stop a silver Toyota motor vehicle with two male occupants.
The vehicle sped off and officers reportedly gave a chase. It is alleged that the suspect seated on the passenger side, pointed a firearm in the direction of the marked police vehicle. The officers then discharged one round in the direction of the vehicle, causing the suspect to drop the firearm.
The vehicle was subsequently intercepted and the two suspects, ages 25 and 26, were arrested. One AR-15 rifle loaded with a magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition was retrieved at the scene.
Furthermore, the TTPS said that officers of the Maloney Police Station, the Special Branch, Task Force East and Customs and Excise Division, conducted an exercise and intercepted a white Nissan Kicks motor vehicle with two male occupants, along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of the Macoya Junction.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 22.8 kilograms of cannabis. The two suspects, both aged 32, of Dow Village, California, were arrested in connection with the find.
Police say investigations remain active.
