Two minors were severely injured in a dog attack on St Peters Road on Saturday evening, police in Sint Maarten reported.
An 11-year-old boy was found severely mauled by two dogs inside a residence, while a 14-year-old boy, who managed to escape, suffered bite wounds to his lower legs.
The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) said they received multiple emergency calls at approximately 9:00pm regarding the incident. Upon arrival, officers found the 11-year-old boy with the two dogs standing near him.
Police said to reach the child and eliminate the threat, officers were forced to put down the dogs.
Both boys received emergency first aid at the scene before being transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Centre (SMMC) for further treatment.
Detectives and forensic officers are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and indicated that further updates will be provided.
Meantime, the Sint Maarten Police Force has urged pet owners to take necessary precautions to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring.
