Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) recently held its fourth annual 2.3km Runway Run, attracting over 175 participants for a unique fitness event on the airport’s runway.

The event, part of PJIAE’s internal health initiative, brought together airport employees, airline representatives, ground handling agents, and community partners to promote wellness and teamwork.

The run, which took place before the airport’s operational hours, began at 5:30am from the Maho side of the runway and extended to Simpson Bay.

Participants were encouraged to take part in the event to support a healthy and active lifestyle, both personally and within the broader airport community.

Sandy Offringa, Chair of the Runway Run Committee, officially kicked off the event with an inspiring message, urging participants to enjoy the run and work together as a team.

“Today, as we come together for the Runway Run, we celebrate not only fitness but also teamwork and dedication. A healthy and active airport community allows us to perform at our best and continue delivering excellence,” she said.

The event was made possible with support from PJIAE’s Airport Rescue Firefighting (RFF) and Operations Departments, who played a key role in ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all involved.

The Runway Run remains a highlight of PJIAE’s ongoing efforts to encourage fitness and wellness among its staff and partners, fostering a spirit of collaboration and community within the airport.
