St. Kitts Music Festival Drives Economic Growth and Tourism Expansion

Minister of Tourism and Minister with responsibility for the St. Kitts Music Festival, Hon. Marsha Henderson, has reaffirmed the festival’s role as one of the biggest economic drivers in the Federation. Speaking at a press conference on 20th February to unveil the full lineup for the 27th edition of the prestigious event, Minister Henderson highlighted the festival’s ongoing impact on the local tourism sector and broader economy.

She noted that the annual event continues to sustain businesses and provide economic opportunities during what is traditionally a slower period for tourism. Citing air arrival figures, Minister Henderson emphasised that in June 2023, the Federation welcomed 10,465 passengers, a number that surged to 14,282 in 2024—a 36% increase, demonstrating the festival’s growing international appeal and its contribution to boosting visitor arrivals.

While awaiting the full economic assessment report, Minister Henderson pointed to visible signs of the festival’s growth, particularly in areas such as hospitality, transportation, retail, and food services.

“For years, this festival has sustained our people in what is traditionally the shoulder period of the tourism season. Since the closure of the sugar factory and the sugar industry in 2005, our mission has been clear—to positively transform lives; the lives of you, the citizens and residents of our beautiful Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, through the economic benefits derived from hosting this world-class event,” Minister Henderson stated.

She reiterated that the Ministry of Tourism remains focused on its inclusion agenda, ensuring that the festival remains accessible and beneficial to all sectors of society by providing employment, fostering entrepreneurship, and integrating local businesses into the festival’s supply chain.

The Ministry of Tourism has a clear mandate to expand St. Kitts’ presence on the global tourism stage. Minister Henderson detailed efforts to enhance the island’s appeal, noting that the Ministry has been working on improving airlift, expanding hotel capacity, and developing tourism-related businesses.

“This year, we are raising the bar even higher than before. Our marketing strategies have been revamped. Our global reach has been intensified, and our positioning elevated to secure St. Kitts Music Festival’s place as a must-attend event on the international music calendar,” the Tourism Minister said.

Minister Henderson also stressed that sustainability is a key pillar in the festival’s long-term vision, extending beyond environmental responsibility to ensuring lasting positive impacts on local communities.

“We are continuously exploring long-term strategies, strategic partnerships, and innovative marketing approaches to sustain the festival’s growth for generations to come,” Henderson added.

“Our mandate is clear—to attract thousands of visitors, to fill our airports and hotels, to fill those seats on additional flights, to put heads in beds, to create even more economic opportunities, and to showcase the beauty and vibrancy of St. Kitts on the world stage,” Minister Henderson concluded.

This 27th edition of the St. Kitts Music Festival will feature international musical legends, rising stars, and homegrown talent.

Additionally, what was once dubbed “Gospel Night” has been rebranded as Praise Fest, through collaboration with the Antioch Baptist Church.
