The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is set to host the Day of Disruption tomorrow, a nationwide student intervention designed to steer young people away from crime and violence. Organised by the Citizen Security Task Force, chaired by Prime Minister the Dr. Terrance Drew, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, this initiative aims to inspire and empower students by exposing them to successful role models who have chosen productive, law-abiding lifestyles.

Addressing Youth Vulnerability
As youth crime and violence remain pressing concerns, there is a growing need for early intervention and positive reinforcement in schools. Young people are often influenced by their environment, making it critical to present alternative, meaningful pathways for their future. Without intervention, at-risk youth may turn to destructive choices, perpetuating cycles of crime, gang activity, and instability.
Motivating Change Through Role Models
The Day of Disruption, scheduled for Wednesday, 26th February, 2025, will feature a diverse group of speakers, including Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, Commissioner of Police James Sutton, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws, Senator Isalean Phillip, Pastor Lincoln Connor, and Infamous. These speakers will share their personal journeys and insights on achieving success through hard work, resilience, and integrity.
Prime Minister Drew, who has been a vocal advocate for youth empowerment, emphasised the importance of providing young people with the tools to make better choices. “Our young people need to see that success is possible through education, discipline, and perseverance. We want them to know that they are valued and that the choices they make today will shape their future and our nation’s future.”
Eartha Carey, Coordinator of the Citizen Security Secretariat (CSS), underscored the initiative’s role in crime prevention. “This intervention is about changing perspectives and shifting mindsets. By showing students real-life examples of individuals who have made positive choices, we are reinforcing the message that there are many pathways to success.”
Each assembly will include an opening prayer, scripture reading, an inspirational song, dance and spoken word performances, a motivational address from a guest speaker, an interactive reflection session with students, and closing remarks.
Strengthening National Unity
This activity is a key component of Beyond the 90 Days, which follows the successful completion of the 90-Day Campaign Against Crime and Violence held between September and December 2024. Recognising the importance of collaboration in shaping a safer society, the government has extended the programme to schools to engage young minds and reinforce positive values.
Additionally, a similar exercise will take place in Nevis, led by the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) in cooperation with the CSS. Details of this initiative will be disclosed at a later date.
A Nationwide Commitment to Change
The Day of Disruption is more than just an event—it is a national movement aimed at building a safer, stronger St. Kitts and Nevis by equipping young people with the knowledge, motivation, and support to make the right choices.
