Authorities Push for Extradition of Murder Suspect Kyrhon “Tall-up” Philip from St. Maarten

Law enforcement officials from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force are working closely with their counterparts in St. Maarten to facilitate the return of fugitive Kyrhon “Tall-up” Philip to the Federation.

Philip fled after being identified as a person of interest in the murder of Akeem Archibald on 20th July, 2024.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Adlai Smith, confirmed Philip’s detention in St. Maarten, stating that he is currently under investigation by authorities there. Discussions are ongoing regarding his extradition to St. Kitts and Nevis.

“There have been significant developments in the ongoing case of fugitive Kyrhon Philip, who is wanted for murder in St. Kitts. Late last week, Mr. Philip was detained in St. Maarten, where he is currently the subject of a police investigation. Law enforcement authorities in the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis are actively engaging their counterparts in St. Maarten to determine next steps regarding his extradition and other legal proceedings,” said DPP Smith.

Authorities are working swiftly to finalise the extradition process to ensure Philip is brought before the courts in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Meanwhile, in a related legal matter, 29-year-old Crown Counsel Prosecutor Shantrice Dorset remains on remand as her bail application is under review. Dorset has been formally charged with multiple offences in connection to Archibald’s murder.

She is facing serious allegations, including:

  • Accessory after the fact to murder
  • Attempting to pervert the course of justice by assisting the fugitive in evading a murder investigation
  • Attempting to pervert the course of justice by aiding the fugitive in avoiding charges for illegal firearm possession
  • Attempting to pervert the course of justice by assisting the fugitive in evading trial for an unrelated attempted murder case
  • Misconduct in public office, leveraging her position as a prosecutor to help the fugitive avoid apprehension
  • Corruption, attempting to use her influence to have the murder weapon surrendered under an amnesty programme

Further updates on Philip’s extradition and Dorset’s bail status are expected in the coming days.
