For the first time in 23 years, St. Kitts and Nevis has recorded four consecutive months without a single homicide, marking a major success in the country’s fight against crime. This is also the first time since 2002 that January and February have passed without a single murder.
According to Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police Force statistics, the last recorded homicide occurred in October 2024, signalling a major shift in crime reduction efforts. This milestone coincides with the by the Citizen Security Secretariat’s launch of the 90-Day Campaign Against Crime and Violence, in September 2024. The initiative was designed to curb gang-related activity and violent crime through proactive, public health targeted interventions.
Authorities credit this success to the government’s strategic approach to crime prevention, enhanced by a partnership between the Citizen Security Secretariat, law enforcement, and citizens and residents.
A Coordinated National Effort to Reduce Crime

The four-month homicide-free stretch highlights the effectiveness of targeted crime prevention initiatives, including increased community engagement, community-driven policing, and youth intervention programmes.
Minister of National Security, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety and sustaining this progress.
“This milestone is not coincidental—it is the result of a well-planned, coordinated effort to reclaim our communities from crime. Through strong collaboration between law enforcement, community leaders, and the Citizen Security Secretariat, we are seeing real progress in making St. Kitts and Nevis a safer place.”
The government’s focus on crime prevention, social intervention, and law enforcement reform continues to shape the country’s approach to public safety.
Citizen Security Secretariat’s Role in Crime Prevention

The Citizen Security Secretariat, which has played a key role in violence prevention, has introduced several community-focused initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of crime.
Coordinator of the Secretariat, Eartha Carey, highlighted the impact of the 90-Day Campaign Against Crime and Violence, launched in September 2024, as well as the recent collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
“We are seeing the tangible results of sustained investment in crime prevention strategies. The 90-Day Campaign was designed to disrupt criminal activity and restore peace in our communities. This year, we deepened our efforts by partnering with the Ministry of Education in February to host the Day of Interruption in primary and secondary schools across St. Kitts, engaging directly with our youth. Nevis will soon host a similar exercise, ensuring that every child understands the importance of choosing peace over violence.”
Community and Police Collaboration Strengthen Public Safety
The Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police Force has also intensified patrols, crime suppression operations, and community engagement. They attribute the reduction in homicides to a stronger police presence and improved public trust in law enforcement.
“We have seen an increase in public cooperation and a willingness to share information. The police cannot fight crime alone—it takes a community effort. The fact that we are now four months into 2025 without a single homicide is proof that this approach is working,” said a police statement.
Sustaining the Gains in Crime Reduction
While this milestone is significant, authorities stress the importance of sustaining these gains. The Citizen Security Secretariat continues to lead violence prevention initiatives, focusing on youth engagement, conflict resolution training, and rehabilitation programmes.
Minister Drew emphasised that the government remains committed to expanding crime prevention programmes, strengthening law enforcement, and promoting social development initiatives to keep crime at record-low levels.
“We will not become complacent. Our goal is to create a St. Kitts and Nevis where peace is the norm, not the exception.”
The four-month homicide-free period reflects the success of a coordinated national approach to crime reduction. With continued focus on community partnerships, preventative measures, and robust policing strategies, there is renewed hope for a permanently safer nation.
Authorities urge the public to remain engaged and vigilant, ensuring that the momentum towards peace and security continues.
