Nevis’ Day of Interruption Inspires Oneness and Action Against Crime

Following the success of the St. Kitts edition, the Nevis Day of Interruption has further strengthened the Federation’s stand against crime and violence. Schools across the island paused for a powerful morning of reflection, empowerment, and calls for positive change, reinforcing the national campaign for safer communities.

The initiative, led by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Citizen Security Secretariat, brought together students, educators, law enforcement officials, and community leaders in a unified effort to address crime at its roots. The event followed the St. Kitts Day of Interruption, held on 26th February, 2025, and saw similar enthusiastic participation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, commended the initiative’s impact, stating: The Day of Interruption is more than just an event—it is a movement. When we empower young minds with positive values and guidance, we actively disrupt the cycle of crime. This initiative demonstrates that our youth are not just the future but the present force of change.”

Throughout the morning, students engaged in assemblies featuring inspirational messages from community leaders, law enforcement, entertainers, and business professionals. Discussions centred on making positive choices, fostering respect, and promoting unity.

Nevis’ Minister of Education, Troy Liburd, praised the collaboration between schools and national security stakeholders. It is heartening to see our students, teachers, and community members standing together in solidarity. Education plays a vital role in shaping responsible citizens, and initiatives like this reinforce our commitment to a safer Nevis,” he noted.

Citizen Security Secretariat Coordinator, Eartha Carey, highlighted the significance of sustained action: “The Day of Interruption is not a one-time event. It is part of a broader, long-term strategy to address crime and violence at its roots. Today’s participation proves that change is possible when we work together.”

With the success of both the St. Kitts and Nevis editions, organisers are optimistic about the continued momentum of the national campaign. The government, in collaboration with community partners, aims to expand interventions that equip young people with the tools to make positive, life-affirming choices.
