Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew officially opened the new headquarters of the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) on 10th March, 2025, marking a major milestone in the government’s efforts to enhance and modernise the country’s most significant economic programme. The upgraded facility, located at Lime Kiln Commercial Development, is designed to provide a world-class environment that reflects the CIU’s evolving role as a globally respected entity.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Drew underscored the importance of the CIU in sustaining St. Kitts and Nevis’ financial stability and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its transformation.
Enhancing Operations for a Competitive Edge
Dr. Drew emphasised that the development of a modern headquarters was not simply about aesthetics but about fostering efficiency and excellence.
“If this is such a large business, it must be treated with that level of importance,” he stated. “We cannot be asking people to perform at such high levels and not have the right environment for them. Hence, this was chosen through a transparent and open mechanism to make sure that this becomes an environment where international business can be conducted.”
The Prime Minister highlighted the need to safeguard the CIU, recognising its pivotal role in the nation’s economic and financial landscape. “Safeguarding CIU is really safeguarding St. Kitts and Nevis, at least at this point in our present economic and financial history,” he stressed.
Strategic Reforms Strengthen Global Confidence
Dr. Drew credited the leadership and staff of the CIU for their dedication to implementing major reforms that have stabilised the programme and reinforced St. Kitts and Nevis’ international standing. He noted that swift action was necessary to protect the country’s visa-free access to key international partners.
“Our visa access to international partners was under serious threat, and quick action had to be taken in order to preserve that while balancing the business of the CIU,” he explained. “We were able to convince them that we are serious.”
The government has placed a strong focus on good governance, risk and compliance, and customer service, ensuring that the CIU meets the highest global standards.
Investment in Training and Technology
To further improve efficiency and service delivery, the government is equipping CIU staff with the latest technology and training opportunities. Dr. Drew reaffirmed his administration’s goal of positioning St. Kitts and Nevis as a leader in the citizenship-by-investment sector.
“The staff must be exposed to world-class training. If you want to have good customer service, if you want to have good development of business, you must have the latest technology,” he stated. “We are on a pathway to being the best office, period, in the citizenship-by-investment sector.”
The new CIU headquarters is a testament to the government’s commitment to innovation and excellence, ensuring that St. Kitts and Nevis remains a top destination for global investors.
