PM Drew Champions Political Partnership as a Catalyst for National Progress, Climate Resilience

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has reinforced the importance of political collaboration in advancing national development, particularly in tackling climate change and strengthening St. Kitts and Nevis’ sustainability agenda.

Speaking at the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Regional Dialogue with the Caribbean on 17th March, Dr. Drew highlighted the necessity of a united front between the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) to drive meaningful progress.

Reflecting on the deepening partnership between both administrations, Prime Minister Drew stressed that effective governance demands a collective approach.

“The relationship between the Leader of the Opposition and myself speaks to a larger question of collaboration. If we expect the world to stand with us in addressing climate challenges, we must first demonstrate our own ability to work together,” he stated.

Dr. Drew emphasised that prioritising national welfare over personal or political interests is the foundation for sustainable growth.

“If the political will is always to put the people and country above self, then there is no challenge too great for us to overcome,” he asserted.

Geothermal Energy Project: A Model of Bipartisan Cooperation

A landmark example of this partnership is the ambitious geothermal energy project—a critical step in securing clean and affordable energy for St. Kitts and Nevis. This initiative, jointly spearheaded by the Federal Government and the NIA, has received backing from key international partners, including the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Saudi Fund for Development. With drilling scheduled to commence this year, the project aims to significantly reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions, and establish the Federation as a leader in renewable energy in the region.

Advancing the Sustainable Island State Agenda

The commitment to bipartisan cooperation was further solidified during a joint Cabinet meeting at the Park Hyatt, led by Prime Minister Drew and Premier Mark Brantley. The high-level discussions focused on advancing the Sustainable Island State agenda, ensuring that policies align with long-term national goals.

Prime Minister Drew’s message was clear—St. Kitts and Nevis must embrace unity to navigate global challenges effectively.

“If we truly want to build a resilient and sustainable future, collaboration must be at the heart of our governance,” he concluded.
