On Sunday, 23rd March 2025, Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Emeritus Leader of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and Member of Parliament for Constituency #6, celebrated an incredible milestone: 36 years of dedicated service to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. The service, held at the Newton Ground Church of God of Prophecy, saw an outpouring of love, appreciation, and gratitude from his supporters, colleagues, and the wider community.
A Remarkable Journey of Service
Dr. Douglas began his political career in 1989, when he was first elected to Parliament. Over the years, he has served as Prime Minister from 1995 to 2015, during which time he made substantial contributions to the country’s growth and development. His work has touched nearly every aspect of St. Kitts and Nevis, from economic reform to social development, helping to improve the lives of countless citizens.

Following the church service, Dr. Douglas expressed heartfelt thanks to the Newton Ground Church and the residents of Constituency #6 for their unwavering support throughout his political journey. “I pay tribute today to the many in this village who started me on the journey, inspired and fortified me by their leadership support, and pursued the vision of empowerment for our people, communities, and constituency,” Dr. Douglas said.
His 36 years of service have been marked by consistent advocacy for social justice, economic empowerment, and regional cooperation. Through his efforts, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has witnessed economic diversification, improvements in healthcare, and significant infrastructure development. Dr. Douglas also played an integral role in establishing St. Kitts and Nevis as a prominent voice in the Caribbean, pushing for regional integration and advocating for small states within international forums.

A Tribute to the People and Legacy
Dr. Douglas took time to remember the matriarchs and patriarchs of the Labour movement, acknowledging their vital role in shaping the country’s political landscape. He particularly recognised those who have been instrumental in his own political journey, including leaders from the Newton Ground community, who have steadfastly supported his vision for social and economic transformation. “We have together blazed the trail for the last 36 years to fulfil our dreams and aspirations for now and for unborn generations,” he remarked.
Former Prime Minister Douglas also honoured the memory of those who have passed, including former leaders like Leroy Parris and Sgt. Powell, as well as individuals unable to attend due to ill health or emigration. He expressed deep appreciation for the consistent support of the Labour families, whose contributions have helped ensure the continued success of the party and its mission.
Dr. Douglas reminded the congregation of the power of one vote, which helped send him to Parliament in 1989, and continued to do so in 1993 and 1995. He noted the profound impact of the Labour movement, which has inspired revolutionary change in the Federation, and reinforced the importance of maintaining unity for continued progress.

A Continued Vision for Change
Dr. Douglas’ closed with a solemn pledge for the continued work of the Labour Party in the coming years. He reaffirmed his dedication to empowering the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, and pledged to continue pursuing the vision of prosperity and social equity for all citizens. “This movement, born from the heart of Newton Ground, will continue to fulfil its mission to build a better future for generations to come,” he said.
Dr. Douglas’ 36th anniversary was not just a celebration of his personal achievements but a tribute to the collective efforts of the Labour movement, the communities that have supported him, and the enduring power of democratic participation.
