U.S. Air Force Medical Team Strengthens Healthcare Services in St. Kitts and Nevis

The healthcare sector in St. Kitts and Nevis has received a significant boost with the arrival of the U.S. Air Force Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) 2025. The two-week mission commenced this week, reinforcing ongoing efforts to enhance medical services and capacity within the Federation.

A formal welcoming ceremony was held on Monday, 24th March, at the Joseph N. France General Hospital to officially receive the visiting team of healthcare professionals and consultants. This initiative underscores a commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and quality for citizens and residents across the Federation and the wider region.

LAMAT 2025 brings specialised medical care in several key areas, including Emergency Medicine, Neonatal and Paediatric Care, ICU and Critical Care, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Audiology, Physiotherapy, Medical Technology, Family Medicine, Radiology, Diabetes Education, and Nutrition.

This year’s mission benefits from substantial support from the Republic of China (Taiwan), a valued partner in strengthening regional healthcare delivery. Their collaboration is expected to enhance the mission’s impact and ensure sustainable medical support for the Federation during the team’s stay.

As part of their outreach, LAMAT will host a Community Health Fair at the Newtown Community Centre on 2nd and 3rd April. Residents will have access to free health screenings and expert medical consultations, providing vital healthcare services directly to the community.

LAMAT, a medical assistance programme under the U.S. Air Force Southern Command, operates in partner nations across the region. Its objectives include improving local healthcare services, fostering strong regional and international partnerships, and delivering essential medical training and education.

Since assuming office in 2022, the Labour Administration has made notable strides in transforming the national health system. The presence of LAMAT 2025 aligns with the government’s ongoing agenda to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and expand professional development within the sector.

The Ministry of Health remains committed to sustainable healthcare financing and workforce development, ensuring long-term improvements in national healthcare provision.
