On 29th March, 2025, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, met with the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a pivotal bilateral meeting, which was held during a special audience marking the President’s birthday. The high-level discussions focused on the strategic collaboration between the two nations in areas such as trade, economic development, healthcare, and education.
With Nigeria being one of Africa’s largest and most influential economies, boasting a population of over 250 million people, Prime Minister Drew expressed a keen interest in leveraging Nigeria’s expertise and resources. Areas of potential cooperation include educational exchange programmes, partnerships in healthcare, investment in technology and renewable energy sectors, and the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The leaders also touched on the upcoming inaugural joint summit between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the African Union (AU), which is set to take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in September 2025. Both sides agreed on the importance of advancing the CARICOM-AU agenda and aligning the interests of African and Caribbean nations to pursue shared development goals and global advocacy.
This meeting highlights the ongoing efforts of St. Kitts and Nevis to diversify its diplomatic relationships and enhance its economic cooperation. It underscores the nation’s commitment to strengthening its presence on the international stage and building lasting, mutually beneficial partnerships.
