New Road Homicide Ends Five-Month Murder-Free Streak

The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is mourning the tragic loss of 60-year-old Dialysis Nurse Isalin Pitt, whose untimely death marks the first homicide in the nation for 2025. The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has launched a full investigation into the incident, which took place between 2:00am and 3:00am on 5th April in the New Road area.

Pitt’s death brings an end to a historic five-month stretch without a single recorded homicide in the Federation—a milestone not achieved in 22 years. This period of calm was largely credited to the Labour Administration’s strategic, community-based crime prevention efforts, led by the Citizen Security Secretariat. The administration’s “all-of-society” approach to tackling crime and violence garnered unprecedented bipartisan support, reflecting a unified national commitment to public safety.

According to a statement from police, Pitt was found with what initial reports suggest to be stab wounds, though full details regarding the nature of her injuries and a possible motive have not yet been disclosed. A male suspect is currently in custody and is assisting with the investigation.

Community Leaders and Law Enforcement Respond

Coordinator of the Citizen Security Secretariat, Eartha Carey, expressed her sorrow at the tragic event and extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late nurse.

“We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence. However, this should not overshadow the real progress our people have made in reclaiming our communities. Let us not lose hope—let us recommit to standing together,” Carey said.

She went on to condemn all acts of crime and violence and urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity. Carey also reminded citizens of the range of support services available through the Secretariat, including access to counselling and training in establishing neighbourhood watch groups and other resilience-focused community initiatives.

“The people of St. Kitts and Nevis have shown what is possible when we work together. This incident must strengthen our resolve to build safer communities for everyone,” she added.

Hope Amid Grief

While the homicide in New Road is a sobering reminder of the challenges that remain, officials are adamant that this setback should not derail the tremendous progress achieved. The Citizen Security Secretariat continues to work closely with law enforcement, schools, faith-based organisations, and community leaders to drive lasting change.

As investigations continue, authorities are calling on anyone with relevant information to come forward, ensuring that justice is served and that the community continues on its path to sustainable peace and security.
