In a move underscoring the Government’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Office of the Ambassador of Sports today presented a significant financial contribution to St. Kitts Nevis Athletics (SKN Athletics), reaffirming its support for youth athletes preparing for the 2025 CARIFTA Games.
During a brief handover ceremony, Ambassador Kenneth Douglas delivered the cheque to SKN Athletics President, Delwayne Delaney. The donation is intended to directly support local athletes currently in training for the CARIFTA Games, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago from 19th to 22nd April, 2025.
“Our athletes are a source of pride for our nation. They embody discipline, excellence, and national spirit,” said Ambassador Douglas. “This contribution is not just about financial support—it is a signal to our young people that their government believes in them, stands with them, and is committed to seeing them succeed on the regional and international stage.”
The CARIFTA Games remain a key developmental platform for young athletes across the Caribbean, with many of the region’s most celebrated sporting icons having launched their careers there. The timely donation ensures that Team St. Kitts and Nevis can continue their preparations with the necessary resources and support to compete at the highest level.
President Delaney, expressed gratitude for the government’s investment, noting the impact such backing has on the morale and performance of athletes representing the Federation.
This support aligns with the Labour government’s wider Sustainable Island State Agenda, which prioritises youth development, social advancement, and the creation of opportunities through sport and culture. The Office of the Prime Minister continues to champion national initiatives that foster talent, discipline, and unity among the nation’s young people.
