Police Probe Fatal Traffic Accidents as Road Safety Concerns Mount

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) is actively investigating two fatal traffic accidents in St. Kitts that have left two individuals dead and several others seriously injured, heightening concerns over road safety across the Federation.

The most recent incident occurred on 25th April, 2025, between 4:30pm and 5:00pm, in Keys Village, near the Louisa Phillip-Jones Community Centre. Preliminary investigations indicate that a vehicle driven by Winston Griffin of Monkey Hill was heading westward from Cayon to Basseterre when it veered off the roadway and plunged into Keys Ghaut.

Emergency responders from the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services were able to extricate both Griffin and his passenger, Wrenford Dore, age 70, of New Road, from the wreckage. Both men were transported by ambulance to the Joseph N. France General Hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, Mr. Dore succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of the following morning.

Griffin remains hospitalised and is reported to be in stable condition.

Just days earlier, another tragic crash rocked the Federation. On 22nd March, 2025, a vehicle crash at White Gate, St. Kitts, resulted in the death of 17-year-old Shanique Harvey of Dieppe Bay and left seven other passengers injured. The driver, Synrick Henderson of Dieppe Bay, has since been charged in connection with the accident.

On 26th April, 2025, at the Tabernacle Police Station, Henderson was formally charged with one count of Manslaughter by Gross Negligence, seven counts of Grievous Bodily Harm, and additional offences including Driving without Insurance and Driving without a Valid and Unexpired Licence.

These back-to-back tragedies highlight an alarming rise in serious road accidents involving both fatalities and life-altering injuries.

The Police have reiterated their commitment to transparency in both investigations and urge all road users to exercise caution, prioritise vehicle maintenance, and strictly adhere to traffic regulations.
