St. Kitts and Nevis Independence 42 Theme has officially been revealed following a rigorous evaluation of over 250 submissions. The winning theme, “Perpetual Progress – A Sustainable Future in View: Independence 42,” was penned by Denaula C LaPlace of Sandy Point, St. Kitts, and announced by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance M. Drew during his media engagement programme The Roundtable.
Speaking on the significance of the chosen theme, Prime Minister Drew commended LaPlace’s entry for its timely and visionary message. “Ms. LaPlace’s submission captures the essence of our nation’s journey—steadfast growth rooted in sustainability. As we celebrate 42 years of sovereignty, this theme challenges us to forge a future where progress is balanced with environmental stewardship, economic resilience, and social cohesion,” Dr. Drew stated.
The 42nd Independence celebrations, scheduled for September 2025, will feature a month-long calendar of events that emphasise national pride, sustainable development, and cultural identity. Activities will include educational programmes, heritage showcases, youth initiatives, and innovation-driven forums—all echoing the call for ‘perpetual progress’.
Adding to the momentum of the announcement, the official Independence 42 logo was also unveiled. It prominently features the brown pelican, the national bird of St. Kitts and Nevis. The bird, celebrated for its resilience and communal nature, serves as a symbol of unity and determination—core values that continue to guide the Federation.
Dr. Marcus Natta and Galloway, Co-Chairs of the Independence 42 Organising Committee, noted the thoughtful integration of tradition and innovation in this year’s planning in a joint statement.
“Our independence events will blend cultural heritage with forward-thinking practices. From green technology exhibitions to community-led engagements, the calendar is designed to inspire every citizen to contribute to national development,” they said.
With just months to go before the historic milestone, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is encouraging widespread participation from citizens at home and abroad. The celebrations aim not only to honour the nation’s past but to energise its people around a shared vision of sustainability, creativity, and resilience.
