Taiwan Donates Medical Supplies to St. Kitts and Nevis, Enhancing National Healthcare Services

The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis has received a substantial donation of wheelchairs and other critical medical equipment from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), through the support of the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation. This generous contribution aims to strengthen healthcare services across the Federation.

During an official handover ceremony held on Tuesday, 13th May, 2025, at the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital, the donation was formally accepted by Minister of Health, Prime Minister and Dr. Terrance Drew. The contribution includes over 87 wheelchairs, 36 toilet chairs, and 64 walkers, which will improve mobility and care at public health facilities, community clinics, and homes for the elderly across the islands.

Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Michael Lin, expressed confidence in the items reaching those most in need. “I believe that through the cooperation of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Development and Constituency Empowerment, these items will be distributed to those in need across the island of Saint Kitts and Nevis,” he said.

Dr. Drew expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting Taiwan’s consistent support in advancing national development. “Taiwan has consistently been a partner with Saint Kitts and Nevis in various areas of endeavour, with health being one of the main areas of focus,” he stated. “These types of accessories are greatly needed for our people here in Saint Kitts and Nevis and throughout our communities.”

Highlighting a broader strategic partnership, the Prime Minister announced the formation of joint sub-committees between the JNF General Hospital and Taipei General Hospital. This initiative will promote direct collaboration in knowledge transfer, technology sharing, and long-term institutional support.

In advocating for Taiwan’s inclusion in global health discussions, Dr. Drew reiterated the country’s commitment to international cooperation. “Taiwan continues to be on the cutting edge of medical development and technology,” he said. “We believe that Taiwan should be at the table. Taiwan should be invited to be a partner and a collaborator—one who would bring its experience and its knowledge to contribute to the health of the world.”

The donation reflects the enduring partnership between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan, with Dr. Drew concluding the ceremony by thanking both the Government of Taiwan and the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation for their unwavering support to the health and wellbeing of the people of the Federation.
