Ministry of National Security Denounces False Allegations, Urges Public to Cease Misinformation

Basseterre, St. Kitts. May 22, 2025. The Ministry of National Security has issued a strong response to what it describes as “false and speculative narratives” circulating on various online platforms, which it claims are deliberate attempts to undermine the credibility of the Ministry and its personnel.

In an official statement dated May 21, 2025, the Ministry condemned the rumours, labelling them as “categorically false” and “deeply disappointing.” It emphasized that such claims not only damage public trust but also pose a direct threat to national security.

“The Ministry of National Security holds one of the most critical mandates in the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. It is responsible for overseeing the agencies that protect and preserve the safety and security of our Federation, for every citizen and resident, including those who choose to engage in the propagation of misinformation,” the statement read.

While acknowledging the importance of political discourse in a democratic society, the Ministry drew a firm line at what it described as politically motivated attacks that seek to destabilize the institution responsible for national peace and order.

The Ministry reminded the public that the dissemination of false, malicious, or defamatory content is an offence under Section 13 of the Electronic Crimes Act (2017) and warned that violators would face the full weight of the law.

For individuals who may have legitimate concerns or evidence of misconduct in public office, the Ministry advised that there are official, transparent mechanisms for such reports. It encouraged those individuals to contact the Integrity Commission in either St. Kitts or Nevis.

The Ministry concluded its statement by reassuring the public that its operations will always be guided by the principles of fairness, transparency, and professionalism, while working in the best interest of all Kittitians and Nevisians.
