Nevis Culturama 51 Set to Celebrate Heritage and Unity with Exciting Summer Line-Up

The highly anticipated Nevis Culturama 51 has officially launched, promising an electrifying mix of pre-events, marquee competitions, cultural showcases, and community pride. Billed as the ‘Caribbean’s Greatest Summer Lime’, the festival will run from 6th June to 5th August, 2025, bringing together locals and visitors for two months of spirited celebration.

The festival’s pre-activities, running from 6th June to 23rd July, include soca teasers, bar crawls, and the reveal of senior pageant contestants. These events will build momentum leading up to the headline festivities, which begin with the official opening ceremony on 24th July.

Several fringe activities have also been confirmed as part of the Culturama 51 calendar. These include:

  • Heat Wave Wete Fete on 12th July
  • Tropixx on 26th July
  • 5 in 1 Wet Fete on 2nd August
  • Horseback Racing on 3rd August

Among the marquee events, attendees can look forward to:

  • Miss Culture Swimwear and Mr Kool Contest on 27th July

  • Emancipation Jouvert Jump Up on 4th August

The full calendar of events is available on the festival’s official Facebook page, Nevis Culturama Festival.

During a media launch held on 20th May, Swain Evelyn, Chairman of the Culturama 51 Committee, provided an overview of the festival’s heritage and evolving appeal.

“It’s a celebration of heritage, showcasing traditional folk arts and is held on Emancipation Day weekend,” Evelyn explained. “Over the years, we have realised the evolution of culture even while our traditions remain the same. Consequently, the committee tries to balance our celebrations to appeal to the younger persons as well as our immigrant populations who have made Nevis their home.”

The 2025 guiding theme is “Nevisian Pride, Second to None, Culturama 51”, penned by Onisha Hunte of Hamilton Estate.

In honour of his lifelong contribution to cultural preservation and community empowerment, Mr. Halstead ‘Sooty’ Byron has been named Culturama 51’s patron. Described by the committee as “a cultural warrior, educator, and keeper of Nevisian tradition,” Byron’s decades-long legacy in heritage advocacy and youth development continues to shape the island’s cultural identity.

First held in 1974, the Nevis Culturama Festival was established by the Nevis Dramatic and Cultural Society (NEDACS) to revive and sustain traditional Nevisian customs. Today, it remains a cornerstone of cultural expression, unity, and national pride.
