Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Drew, arrived in Cuba on the evening of 21st May, 2025, for a two-day official state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing regional collaboration between the two Caribbean nations.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister and his delegation received full military honours and were formally welcomed by Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Vice Minister of Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; David Rivero Pérez, Ambassador of Cuba to St. Kitts and Nevis; and other senior Cuban officials.
During the initial round of discussions, Drew engaged in substantive dialogue on a range of pressing regional issues affecting both nations. Topics included the advancement of renewable energy projects, evolving geopolitical challenges, and broader matters of mutual interest in the Caribbean context.
A key element of the discussions was the welfare of students from St. Kitts and Nevis who are currently pursuing higher education in Cuba. Drew, a former medical student in Cuba himself, spoke candidly about the value of Cuban education and its enduring impact on Caribbean professionals. The discussions addressed students’ academic achievements, ongoing challenges, and their overall well-being.
Accompanying the Prime Minister are his wife, Mrs. Diani Prince-Drew, Cabinet Secretary Dr. Marcus Natta, Ambassador Kenneth Douglas, Verna Mills (Ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Republic of Cuba), Press Secretary Javon Liburd, Medical Specialist Dr. Joylette Woodley, and Advisor to the Prime Minister Austin Edinborough.
The state visit underscores the longstanding friendship between St. Kitts and Nevis and Cuba and aims to reinforce collaborative efforts across education, healthcare, and sustainable development. The engagement further demonstrates both nations’ commitment to addressing shared goals through mutual support and diplomatic partnership.
The state visit will conclude on 23rd May, 2025.
