The Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Organisation of American States (OAS) has joined efforts to promote sustainable tourism and youth empowerment through the launch of the Eco Youth Ventures project. The Federation, represented by Counsellor and Alternative Representative Shanelle Simmonds, participated in the official signing ceremony for a Cooperation Agreement with the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and three Caribbean nations.
Held under the auspices of the OAS, the agreement signals the start of a regional initiative focused on advancing sustainability through STEM education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The Eco Youth Ventures project is designed to equip young people with the tools and resources needed to actively contribute to environmentally conscious economic development.
Speaking on behalf of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative, Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin, Counsellor Simmonds addressed the theme “Perspectives on STEM Education for Sustainability in the Caribbean.” She underscored the importance of integrating science, technology, and environmental stewardship into education systems to build more resilient, future-ready societies.
Simmonds reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to the 2040 goal of becoming a 100% Sustainable Island State and praised Taiwan’s longstanding support in helping Saint Kitts and Nevis meet its development priorities.
“The Republic of China (Taiwan) continues to be an invaluable partner,” she noted, “especially in initiatives that place youth at the centre of climate solutions and innovation.”
Taiwan’s collaboration with Caribbean partners through the Eco Youth Ventures project is expected to strengthen regional capacity for green growth while advancing shared climate and development goals.
