Twenty-three boys from primary schools across St. Kitts were recognised for their outstanding character, leadership, and community involvement at the 2025 Boys of Excellence Award Ceremony held on Friday, 13th June, at the St. Peter’s Community Centre. The national event highlighted a commitment to fostering self-esteem, responsibility, and pride among young men through public recognition and positive reinforcement.
Under the inspiring theme “Building Self-Esteem in Boys: Stand Up, Be Heard, Be Seen!” the event brought together top government officials and community leaders to honour the contributions and promise of the nation’s youth.
Her Excellency the Governor-General, Dame Marcella Liburd, joined a delegation of Cabinet ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Geoffrey Hanley; Minister of Public Infrastructure Konris Maynard; Attorney General Garth Wilkin; and Minister of State for Gender Affairs and Youth Empowerment Isalean Phillip, to present awards and show unified government support for the initiative.
Minister Phillip commended the recipients and the vision behind the Boys of Excellence programme, which began in 2022 and has since become a signature event of the Department of Gender Affairs. “We always seek to find initiatives in the Department of Gender Affairs [so that] we can do more to support and encourage our boys and especially our men,” she said. “You have been identified and chosen for being extraordinary in how you show up and represent yourselves and your families, and I think that is very honourable.”
