Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew issued a strong call for deeper Africa–Caribbean economic integration during his keynote address at the 32nd Annual Meetings of the African Export‑Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Abuja, Nigeria, on 25th June 2025. He urged leaders to move beyond symbolic ties and institutionalise partnerships that boost trade and shared prosperity.
Dr Drew praised Afreximbank’s expanding role in the Caribbean, citing its transformative Caribbean‑Africa Trade and Investment Programme (CATIP) valued at US $1.5 billion, the opening of a regional office in Barbados, and the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF) which has already mobilised over US $6 billion in deals. “Saint Kitts and Nevis was proud to be the first country in the Caribbean to sign an MoU with Afreximbank,” he remarked, describing it as among his nation’s most “impactful and future‑facing” decisions for CARICOM.
He highlighted historic cultural links while emphasising the need for new systems to support economic cooperation. “Resilience brought us this far, but it is reinvention that will carry us forward,” he said, reinforcing the vision of turning shared heritage into structured, mutual advancement.
Under Dr. Drew’s leadership, St Kitts and Nevis is pursuing its Sustainable Island State Agenda—centred on renewable energy, green innovation, healthcare modernisation and food security—and views institutions like Afreximbank as essential partners in this paradigm shift.
His remarks followed commendations to Afreximbank president Professor Benedict Oramah for steering the bank to embrace Caribbean aspirations and opening tangible opportunities for regional growth.
