A wave of national sorrow and solidarity swept St. Kitts and Nevis following the discovery of 15-year-old Janelika Romney’s body last week, a development that ignited both outrage and compassion across the Federation.

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew expressed the nation’s grief, stating: “It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to the parents, family and friends of young Janelika. Her life was taken far too soon…May Janelika’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory forever strengthen our resolve to protect all our children.”
The poignant impact of Janelika’s death also resonated deeply during the first night of the St. Kitts Music Festival on Friday, 27th June, when performing artist Collin Wyatt paused mid-set to lead the audience in a moment of silence in her honour. He shared a heartfelt personal anecdote: “A few weeks back…my sister was missing…I was looking for this to be the same outcome…To see that a young girl at such a tender age, life being ripped away…We need to protect the women. We need to protect the young girls…”

A community-led search took place on 21st June after Janelika, a Verchilds High School student and only child, vanished in New Guinea on 16th June. Her body was discovered in the White Gate area at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, 27th June.
A day before her body was discovered, authorities arrested 64-year-old Selwyn “Judge” Pringle of Dieppe Bay, charging him with kidnapping and false imprisonment in connection with the case. The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues its investigation with all available resources, urging anyone with information to contact the Violent Crime Unit on 662‑3468 or their nearest station.
