The future of West Indies cricket will be on full display this week as the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Men’s U19 50 Over Championship officially bowls off in St. Kitts and Nevis. This major regional youth tournament features seven powerhouse teams—United States, Leeward Islands, Windward Islands, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, and Guyana—vying for glory over three weeks of exciting competition.
Matches begin tomorrow, Tuesday, 25th June, and will run until Thursday, 24th July, with games scheduled at several key venues across both islands: Elquemedo Willett Park in Nevis, and Conaree Cricket Centre, St. Mary’s Park in Cayon, and St. Paul’s Cricket Grounds in St. Kitts.
The St. Kitts Cricket Association (SKCA), which is spearheading the local hosting efforts, has expressed immense pride in facilitating what is regarded as one of the most critical developmental tournaments in the CWI calendar. The Association is encouraging the public to seize this opportunity to witness the next generation of cricketing talent.
“This is our chance to see the future of West Indies cricket right here in our backyard,” the SKCA stated. “We urge everyone to come out, fill the stands, and cheer for every boundary and wicket. Let’s show our pride and make this an unforgettable experience.”
The home crowd will have added incentive to attend, with seven players from the Federation—five from St. Kitts and two from Nevis—named in the Leeward Islands Tropical Wave squad. Their inclusion is expected to galvanise local support and add to the excitement surrounding the championship.
The tournament goes beyond competition; it is intended to foster inspiration and development for young athletes in the region. For many players, this is a stepping stone to future selection for West Indies U19 and senior teams. Fans are encouraged to bring flags, enthusiasm, and family spirit to support the young cricketers as they chase their dreams.
Cricket lovers and casual spectators alike can expect a high-quality showcase of regional youth talent, reflecting the skill, determination, and promise that the West Indies cricketing legacy has long been known for.
