SKNAA Welcomes Refurbished World-Class Certified Kim Collins Stadium

The Kim Collins Track and Field Stadium, officially reopened on 12 July 2025, has been certified Level 2 by World Athletics, marking a major milestone for youth sports and athletics in St. Kitts and Nevis. The reopening ceremony featured an “Exam Revenge” primary school competition, drawing students from across the Federation for a spirited track-and-field event.

During a recent media appearance, Delwayne Delaney, President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Athletics Association, described the refurbishment as a “significant investment” in nurturing local talent. He emphasised the importance of having a certified track for technical disciplines, explaining that accuracy in events such as hurdles is only achievable on a facility that meets international standards . Approved by World Athletics, the stadium is now recognised for its ability to host regional meets and support scholastic competitions across both St. Kitts and Nevis .

The Level-2 certification allows regional competitions to be held at the venue and provides substantial benefits for athletes, although it does not meet the requirements needed to host global championships due to infrastructural factors such as event pits and seating capacity. Delaney reassured that despite the local certification level, the new Mondo track surface is comparable to those used in Europe and Jamaica, designed to reduce athlete fatigue and enhance performance.

Event highlights included community activities and the primary school competition, where St. Paul’s Primary School emerged victorious in a friendly football tournament. The event, hosted in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, the Government, and officials such as Prime Minister Terrance Drew, Minister Samal Duggins, and Governor-General Dame Marcella Liburd, symbolised a united front in supporting youth empowerment through sport.

The infrastructural improvements, which took two years to complete, extend beyond the track itself: the project included renovated restrooms, stands, lighting, and drainage, as well as refreshed amenities to enhance athlete and spectator comfort.

The re-opening marks a fresh chapter for St. Kitts and Nevis athletics, offering a modern, internationally approved venue to foster talent and attract visitors. Local and regional meets planned for the 2025–2026 season will benefit from the upgraded facility, which stands as a testament to public-private collaboration and investment in youth development.
