Manchester City have launched a staggering £147 million (USD $190 million) bid to re-sign Cole Palmer from Chelsea, potentially setting a new British transfer record. The offer comes just under two years after the club sold the England international to Chelsea for £40 million — a decision now widely viewed as one of Pep Guardiola’s few transfer missteps.
Palmer, whose familial ties to St. Kitts and Nevis, recently visited the Federation to connect with his ancestral roots. His time in the islands was warmly received and has added to the national pride surrounding his meteoric rise in international football.
Since his move to Chelsea, Palmer has flourished into a world-class talent. In just 70 Premier League appearances, he has notched an impressive 37 goals and 19 assists, earning 12 England caps and helping Chelsea lift the Club World Cup with a standout performance in the final against Paris Saint-Germain, where he scored twice and registered an assist.
According to Spanish publication Fichajes, Chelsea are determined to keep hold of their star forward and are confident he will honour his long-term deal, which runs until 2033. Despite this, Manchester City — driven by Guardiola’s renewed interest — have tabled what would be a record-breaking offer in a bid to lure Palmer back to the Etihad.
Guardiola is reportedly “determined to bring him back at all costs,” with club insiders suggesting that the manager sees Palmer as a key figure in the next phase of City’s evolution. The current bid would surpass the British transfer record set earlier this summer by Liverpool’s signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in the player, but Chelsea remain confident that their project — with Palmer at its core — will be enough to convince him to stay. His teammates have been vocal in their admiration following his Club World Cup exploits.
“It was incredible. He’s a world-class player and today he showed that,” said striker Liam Delap.
Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez added, “Cole Palmer is the best in the world. If he’s not the best now, he’s going to be in the next two to three years. He shows it in every match.”
Right-back Malo Gusto highlighted Palmer’s team spirit: “He’s a very good person, knows when to speak up, and keeps the mood light. Everyone knows Cole now. We’re lucky to have him.”
Palmer’s connection to his Kittitian roots, alongside his meteoric rise, has made him a figure of immense regional and international interest. As Chelsea weigh the record-breaking offer, the football world watches to see whether loyalty or legacy will win the day.
