New Fire Officers Boost Emergency Response Capacity in St. Kitts and Nevis

The St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS) celebrated a major milestone on Thursday, 24th July, 2025, as a new cohort of fire officers officially graduated following a rigorous six-month training programme. The addition of these officers is expected to significantly enhance the Federation’s emergency response capabilities and further strengthen public safety across both islands.

The graduation ceremony, held at the NEMA Conference Room, was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, senior officials from the Ministry of National Security, high-ranking fire officers, and representatives from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, alongside proud family members and well-wishers. The event marked the successful conclusion of an intensive and multi-disciplinary training course designed to prepare the recruits for the varied challenges of modern fire service.

The new graduates received comprehensive instruction in fire suppression, search and rescue, hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication, and emergency medical care. The curriculum reflects international best practices and was developed to ensure that fire officers are fully equipped to handle a wide range of incidents that may arise in the course of duty.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Drew praised the dedication, courage, and resilience demonstrated by the recruits throughout their training. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening national security institutions and promoting continuous professional development within the SKNFRS.

“The Fire and Rescue Services are a cornerstone of our national security framework,” said Dr. Drew. “These young men and women have chosen a path of service that demands sacrifice, bravery, and excellence. Their graduation today not only strengthens our emergency services but also reflects our commitment to protecting every citizen and resident of this Federation.”

Delivering the keynote address, Natalie Fough urged the graduates to uphold the noble values of duty, honour, service, and courage as they embark on their careers. She encouraged them to lead with integrity and never lose sight of the immense responsibility entrusted to them.

The new officers will be deployed across both St. Kitts and Nevis, enhancing the SKNFRS’s capacity to deliver timely and effective responses in times of crisis. Their integration into the fire service marks another step forward in the Federation’s mission to provide robust, professional, and reliable emergency services for all.

This latest recruitment also reflects broader national security goals of modernisation, training, and capacity-building across essential services, ensuring that St. Kitts and Nevis is better prepared to respond to emergencies and disasters of all kinds.
