The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, welcomed Edward Tao, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), during a diplomatic courtesy meeting held on 31st July, 2025. The meeting reaffirmed the enduring bilateral relationship between the two nations as they commemorate 41 years of diplomatic partnership.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Drew conveyed confidence in Ambassador Tao’s ability to further strengthen the already robust relationship between the two countries, praising the legacy of the outgoing Ambassador Michael Lin.
“Our countries have enjoyed a history of close cooperation, and we look forward to building on that foundation under your tenure,” said Dr. Drew, who reaffirmed his government’s commitment to deepening ties with Taiwan.
The Prime Minister also recognised Taiwan’s valuable support across several sectors critical to national development, including agriculture, renewable energy, education, and health. He noted that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis remains steadfast in its advocacy for Taiwan’s inclusion in global discussions, particularly in international organisations where its voice has been historically excluded.
Ambassador Tao, in turn, extended greetings from Taiwan’s President and Premier and assured the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis of Taiwan’s continued dedication to collaborative development and mutual progress.
“I am honoured to represent Taiwan in St. Kitts and Nevis and to continue working on the shared goals that unite our peoples,” Ambassador Tao stated. “Our friendship is based on mutual respect, shared values, and a deep commitment to sustainable development.”
The meeting also included updates on several ongoing bilateral projects and discussions on forthcoming initiatives designed to improve livelihoods and foster innovation across both islands.
Taiwan remains one of St. Kitts and Nevis’ most consistent and strategic diplomatic partners, having played a key role in national infrastructure, technology, and capacity-building efforts. The government continues to express gratitude for Taiwan’s support and has pledged to maintain strong advocacy for its meaningful participation on the global stage.
