The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has officially released its Independence 42 Calendar of Activities, ushering in a season of national pride under the banner: “Perpetual Progress – A Sustainable Future in View: Independence 42.” The schedule boasts over 40 diverse events from August to October 2025, blending reflection, innovation, and community spirit in celebration of the country’s 42nd anniversary of independence.
Launched with the MV Christena Disaster Memorial Service on 1st August, the calendar’s tone is both reverent and aspirational, setting the stage for a series of cultural, educational, sporting, and wellness-driven activities. Among the key highlights are:
- National Heroes Day – 16th September: Commemorated with flag-raising ceremonies, a wreath-laying, and national honours recognising outstanding citizens.
- Patriotic Day – 18th September: An island-wide celebration of national colours featuring school activities, cultural showcases, and community treats.
- Independence Day – 19th September: A grand ceremonial parade, Prime Minister’s Toast to the Nation, and the annual Independence Awards ceremony.

The widely anticipated Caribbean Premier League T20 cricket series returns from 14th–21st August, injecting energy into the national build-up, while environmental awareness takes centre stage with the “Deep Roots, Strong Nation” Tree Planting Competition on 30th August, aligned with the Federation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda.
Engaging dialogue also forms a crucial part of this year’s commemorations. The “CONVERSATIONS” series returns with powerful public forums tackling food sovereignty, family values, tourism, and public health across multiple dates in August and September. Other crowd favourites include the National Colours Days, Caribbean Wellness Walk (13th September), and the National Service of Gratitude and Gospel Concert (14th September).
According to Viera Galloway and Dr. Marcus Natta, Co-Chairs of the Independence 42 Committee, this year’s theme reflects a deeper mission beyond celebration.
“This milestone is more than a celebration; it’s a testament to our resilience and shared vision,” said Galloway. “From tree planting to youth dialogues, every event invites Kittitians and Nevisians to own our progress.”
Dr. Natta echoed this sentiment, noting, “Independence 42 bridges generations—honouring heroes, empowering youth and uniting our global family. Together, we’re not just marking history; we’re planting seeds for a thriving, self-sufficient nation.”
The programme stretches into October, culminating in the 19th Caribbean Week of Agriculture (29th September–3rd October) and a Night of Dance on 26th October, providing a vibrant close to a meaningful season of national pride.
Kittitians, Nevisians at home and abroad, and friends of the Federation are encouraged to participate in this year’s events to reflect on the country’s journey while embracing the sustainable future it envisions.
