From 18th to 22nd August 2025, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis, in partnership with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), will host a five‑day National Capacity Building Workshop in Strategic Policy Planning in Basseterre. Designed to empower senior management and technical officers, the workshop aims to elevate national capacity in assessing development options, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, and resilience-building for sustainable development.
The national capacity building workshop in strategic policy planning will offer public sector professionals tools to align policy design with global development agendas—including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda—and translate them into tailored strategies for national priorities. Participants will enhance skills in development appraisal, performance monitoring, and evaluation to boost institutional effectiveness.
The workshop is designed to strengthen the strategic planning abilities of senior government officials and technical staff across various ministries and agencies. It also aims to foster evidence-based decision-making, which is essential for improving policy outcomes, enhancing institutional accountability, and building national resilience. A key focus of the training is to enable better alignment between international development frameworks and local aspirations, ensuring that national policies are both coherent and tailored to the unique context of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The workshop will be conducted in English and requires attendees to bring laptops equipped with word processing and presentation software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or Google Docs and Slides.
This initiative builds upon earlier capacity-building efforts, such as a UNDP‑facilitated Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation workshop delivered to justice sector professionals in June 2025, and a statistical training session organised by the Department of Statistics. These interventions aim to institutionalise a culture of results-driven administration and governance across the Federation.
As St Kitts and Nevis seeks to diversify its economy and strengthen public service delivery, the workshop addresses critical gaps in policy formulation and evaluation. By enhancing strategic capacities, the Government aims to accelerate sustainable development, improve service delivery, and build institutional resilience in the face of future challenges.
