Better Opportunity Fair #3 Postponed Due to Tropical Storm Erin

The Citizen Security Secretariat has announced that the Better Opportunity Fair #3, originally scheduled for Saturday, 16th August, 2025, at the Sandy Point Hard Court, has been postponed due to the anticipated approach of Tropical Storm Erin.

The decision was made out of an abundance of caution, as both the St. Kitts Meteorological Department and the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service have advised that the storm could pass dangerously close to parts of the Eastern Caribbean this weekend. While the exact impacts on St. Kitts and Nevis are still uncertain, potential risks from strong winds, heavy rain, and coastal swells remain a concern.

Organisers apologised for any inconvenience caused and assured the public that a new date will be announced soon.

“We know how much our community looks forward to the Better Opportunity Fair, but safety comes first. We encourage everyone to monitor official weather updates, make the necessary preparations, and stay safe as the storm approaches,” said the Secretariat’s Coordinator, Eartha Carey.

Residents are urged to follow updates from the St. Kitts Meteorological Department and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for the latest information on Tropical Storm Erin.

The Better Opportunity Fair #3 was set to feature information booths from the UWI Open Campus, MASA, Elevate, Rotary Club, Aspire, the Inland Revenue Department, the Ministry of Social Development, and other organisations, alongside food, drinks, entertainment, and family activities.

As of 15th August, 2025, Tropical Storm Erin has continued to intensify and is now producing sustained winds near 70 mph. Forecasters expect it to become the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season as early as this afternoon, with the potential to strengthen into a major Category 3 storm, and possibly reaching Category 4 early next week.

The system is currently located about 550 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands and is moving west-northwest. While the centre of Erin is expected to pass north of the Caribbean islands and Puerto Rico, the storm is still likely to bring tropical storm–force winds, between 2 and 6 inches of rain, flash flooding, and hazardous sea conditions including high swells and rip currents to parts of the region.

Tropical storm watches are in effect for Anguilla, Barbuda, St. Maarten, St. Barts, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Martin. Residents are urged to closely monitor official updates and remain alert as conditions could change.
