Record Number of Students Awarded Taiwan Scholarships

A historic twenty-eight students from St. Kitts and Nevis have been awarded scholarships to pursue tertiary education in the Republic of China (Taiwan), marking the highest number ever granted in a single year under the longstanding bilateral partnership. The Taiwan scholarships, presented on 15th August, 2025, at Palm’s Court Gardens, represent a significant boost to educational opportunities for the nation’s youth.

Of the awardees, twenty-five received funding through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Scholarship Programme, while three were granted support via the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Scholarship Programme. Both initiatives have been instrumental in enabling Kittitian and Nevisian students to access world-class higher education across a range of disciplines.

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew congratulated the recipients, noting that the achievement reflects both the academic dedication of the students and the strengthening ties between St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan.

The Prime Minister was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, and Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador to the Federation, Ambassador Edward Tao, who reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting human resource development in the twin-island state.

Senior government officials, including Permanent Secretaries Naeemah Hazelle and Lisa Romayne Pistana, were also present, along with family members who celebrated the academic milestone. The record-breaking number of scholarships underscores the Federation’s focus on equipping young people with the skills and knowledge needed to drive national progress.
