Jason Holder delivered a match-winning all-round performance as the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots ended their three-match losing streak in CPL 2025, defeating the Barbados Royals by 12 runs in Basseterre on Thursday night. The crucial result lifted the Patriots to second place on the points table, while the Royals slumped to the bottom after suffering their second consecutive defeat.
The victory was built on Holder’s impact with both bat and ball. After the Patriots lost Evin Lewis, Rilee Rossouw, and Mohammad Rizwan inside the powerplay, slipping to 45 for 3, Holder steadied the innings with a 21-ball 38. His 49-run partnership with Kyle Mayers provided much-needed momentum after early setbacks. Additional quick runs from Abbas Afridi (16 off 10) and Naseem Shah (19 not out off 11) carried the Patriots to a competitive total.
The Royals’ chase began promisingly, with contributions from Brandon King (22), Quinton de Kock (15), and Kadeem Alleyne, who top-scored with 42 from 28 deliveries. However, their progress stalled as wickets fell at regular intervals. Rovman Powell added 21 off 15 balls, but the lack of a decisive innings cost the visitors dearly.
Holder returned with the ball to dismantle the Royals’ lower order, claiming four wickets for just 14 runs in 3.2 overs, including three critical strikes at the death. Naseem Shah and Navin Bidaisee supported well, bagging two wickets each to close out the match with ten balls to spare.
With the win, the Patriots secured their second victory in five games, climbing the table behind leaders Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. The Royals, still searching for their first win, remain rooted at the bottom.
