St. Kitts and Nevis on Alert as Tropical Wave Brings Unsettled Weather

St. Kitts and Nevis are on alert as a tropical wave approaches the islands, with the St. Kitts Meteorological Services and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) closely monitoring its progress. The tropical wave is expected to bring significant rainfall, thunderstorms, and unsettled weather conditions over the coming days.

Forecasts indicate that residents and visitors should prepare for predominantly cloudy skies, frequent showers, and up to a 70 per cent chance of thunderstorms. Rainfall accumulations within the next 24 hours are projected between 12.7 mm and 25.4 mm (0.5 to 1 inch).

The unsettled conditions are expected to persist into the weekend, with Friday forecast to bring mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers, and a moderate chance of thunderstorms. Residual moisture is also predicted to trigger additional showers on Saturday, extending the period of disruption. Evening forecasts show some improvement, with partly cloudy conditions, a 60 per cent chance of showers, and a reduced 30 per cent chance of thunderstorms.

Authorities emphasise the importance of preparedness as the region enters the peak phase of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Residents are urged to review disaster plans, remain vigilant, and follow official updates for timely guidance.

The tropical wave’s influence is also expected to extend beyond St. Kitts and Nevis, affecting Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the wider Leeward Islands with unstable weather. Other areas of the Eastern Caribbean may experience scattered showers today, though conditions are likely to improve as an Atlantic high-pressure system gradually re-establishes itself across the region.
