As schools across St. Kitts and Nevis reopened today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, delivered an inspiring back-to-school address, urging students to embrace the new academic year with purpose and dedication.

“Whether you are stepping into your school for the first time or returning with familiar faces and routines this week, this is your opportunity to grow, to learn, and to become who you are meant to be,” Dr. Hanley stated, setting an encouraging tone for the year ahead.
Acknowledging the hard work of students, Dr. Hanley congratulated them on their preliminary CSEC and CAPE results, emphasising that these achievements reflect resilience and commitment to excellence. “Congratulations, your hard work, late nights, and determination have paid off, and we are incredibly proud of you,” he affirmed.
Highlighting the collective efforts of educators, he remarked, “To our teachers, thank you for your tireless dedication, your guidance, and your belief in every student’s potential. You are the architects behind these successes.”
Dr. Hanley also commended schools for their outstanding performances in various subjects. “Verchilds High School is the most outstanding school for the 2025 CSEC examination, with 21 subjects returning outstanding results and the highest number of overall grade ones,” he noted. “Basseterre High School, Cayon High School, Charles E. Mills Secondary School, and Washington Archibald High School also achieved remarkable results, especially in mathematics and English A.”
Emphasising the importance of core values, Dr. Hanley urged students to embody honesty, kindness, respect, and excellence. “Honesty is more than just telling the truth. It’s about owning your actions and having the courage to speak up when something does not feel right,” he explained. “Kindness is powerful. Even a small act—a smile, a helping hand—can create connection.”
He further encouraged students to be ready to learn and pursue excellence, stating, “Learning does not just happen. It is something we must prepare for. That means coming to school with a curious mind, a positive attitude, and a willingness to try.”
Addressing parents and guardians, Dr. Hanley highlighted their vital role in the educational journey. “Your support is essential. When families and schools work together, students thrive and our entire community grows stronger,” he affirmed.
Concluding his address, Dr. Hanley challenged students to live by the values of honesty, kindness, respect, and excellence, both within and beyond the classroom. “Our schools are more than buildings; they are communities, and you are an essential part of them,” he said.
