The Regional Tourism Youth Congress 2025 will be hosted in Barbados on 2nd October, bringing together promising young leaders from across the Caribbean to discuss the future of the region’s most vital industry. The Regional Tourism Youth Congress 2025, organised by the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), will run alongside the State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC) under the theme “Reimagining Caribbean Tourism: Research, Relevance and the Road Ahead.”
St. Kitts and Nevis will be represented by two young ambassadors who earned their places through the local tourism congress held in May this year. Mary Shelford, a student of the Immaculate Conception Catholic School and St. Kitts’ Junior Minister of Tourism, and Kayla Claxton, a student of Gingerland Secondary School and Nevis’s Junior Minister of Tourism, will compete among peers from 14 territories.

At the congress, participants aged 14 to 17 will present original ideas and proposals on one of four key topics:
- The 3 New S’s of Caribbean Tourism
- Leveraging Heritage Tourism for Development
- Connecting the Caribbean with Sustainable Transport
- Digital Transformation in Tourism
These presentations are expected to tackle some of the most pressing issues in regional tourism, including sustainability, community engagement, and technological innovation. A panel of judges, made up of tourism officials and industry experts, will assess the presentations. The winning participant will be crowned Caribbean Junior Minister of Tourism and will serve as a regional ambassador, advocating for sustainable practices and representing the Caribbean at tourism-related events throughout the year.
The Caribbean Tourism Organisation has emphasised the importance of the Regional Tourism Youth Congress 2025 in providing a platform for the next generation to shape the industry’s response to global challenges. With climate change, evolving traveller expectations, and the urgent need for more resilient economies at the forefront, the contributions of these young voices are expected to influence policy directions and industry strategies in the coming years.
The congress forms part of CTO’s wider effort to ensure that the Caribbean remains a competitive global destination by nurturing young talent and innovative thinking.
