Drew Calls for Reparatory Justice Through Trans Atlantic Bridge of Hope

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew has returned from a landmark mission to Africa, declaring the establishment of the Trans Atlantic Bridge of Hope as a vital step in advancing the cause of reparatory justice.

Dr. Drew held high-level discussions with the leaders of several nations including Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Ghana, stressing that the Caribbean and Africa must now forge an unbreakable alliance to address the legacies of slavery and colonial exploitation.

“Reparatory justice is not only about financial redress. It is about dignity, recognition, and the rebuilding of what was broken,” Dr. Drew said. “Through this Trans Atlantic Bridge of Hope, we are creating a platform where Africa and the Caribbean stand together, shoulder to shoulder, demanding justice for our people.”

The Prime Minister underscored that St. Kitts and Nevis, despite its size, would play a leading role in unifying voices across the diaspora. “Our federation may be small, but our history is deep, our scars are real, and our voice will be heard. This bridge is a declaration that the time for fragmented appeals is over.”

Dr. Drew emphasised that reparatory justice was a global moral imperative. “We are not begging. We are asserting a rightful claim. The crimes of the transatlantic slave trade and centuries of exploitation demand an organised response, and it must come from us — Africans and Caribbeans united in purpose.”

The Prime Minister also signalled that future cooperation would extend beyond reparations to include trade, technology exchange, education, and cultural initiatives. “This bridge is not just about healing the past — it is about constructing the future,” he said. “We want our young people to see Africa not as distant, but as a living partner in building prosperity.”

He pointed to Nigeria as an example of the scale of the opportunity, noting its population of over 250 million. “You might have a business in St. Kitts, but you’re only catering for 50,000 people. Go to Africa, there’s 1.5 billion people over there. All you need is 0.01% of the population to know about your product—that’s more than the whole population of the Caribbean,” he said.

By framing reparations as part of a wider developmental strategy, Dr. Drew positioned the Trans Atlantic Bridge of Hope as both symbolic and practical. “This is a turning point,” he declared. “We cannot continue to carry the burdens of history in silence. This bridge is how we break that silence, together. It is well established that boats once carried millions across the Atlantic in chains. Today, we must ensure ships and planes carry opportunity, connection, and prosperity,” he concluded.
