According to UWI SRC, the epicentre was pinpointed near latitude 16.77N and longitude 61.29W, approximately 64 kilometres northeast of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, and 72 kilometres southeast of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. Residents across the Eastern Caribbean were shaken early Monday morning after a magnitude 5.0 earthquake in the Eastern Caribbean struck offshore. The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI SRC) confirmed the tremor occurred at 5:16am, registering at a depth of 24 kilometres.

Despite the widespread tremors, no injuries or structural damage have been reported. Officials emphasised that while quakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the region, they serve as timely reminders of the Caribbean’s seismic risks.
The Eastern Caribbean sits along the boundary of the Caribbean and North American plates, making it one of the most seismically active zones in the world. Authorities continue to encourage residents to remain prepared for the possibility of stronger events in the future.
