Official Book of Condolence Opened for Former Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis opened a Book of Condolence at Government Headquarters on Monday, 22nd September, 2025, allowing citizens, officials, and members of the diplomatic community to pay their respects to the late former Governor General, Sir Edmund Lawrence.

Sir Edmund, who served as the Federation’s third Governor General from 2013 to 2015, was widely celebrated for his decades of service in education, youth development, banking, finance, and community-building initiatives. His passing on 7th September, 2025, prompted a national outpouring of grief, with flags across the Federation flown at half-mast in his honour.

The Book of Condolence provides an opportunity for government officials, civil society, and the public to share messages of sympathy and reflect on the enduring impact of Sir Edmund’s contributions. It will remain open until Thursday, 2nd October, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Preparations are now being made for a state funeral to appropriately honour Sir Edmund’s legacy, recognising his pivotal role as a visionary leader and principled statesman.

Meanwhile, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Mission to the United Nations, in collaboration with the Consulate General in New York, is also welcoming members of the diplomatic and consular corps, nationals and friends, to pay tribute to the late Governor General.

Dr. Mutryce Williams, Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis to the UN, reflected on Sir Edmund’s exemplary life, stating, “H.E. Sir Edmund Lawrence was the embodiment of ‘Country Above Self.’ His unwavering commitment to family, community, and nation set the standard for public service. His contributions to national and regional leadership in economic empowerment and development serve as a model across the Caribbean.” She added that his legacy of vision, humility, and devotion continues to inspire civic cohesion, education, and principled public service.
