The state funeral of the late Governor General, Sir Edmund Lawrence, will be held on Thursday, 2nd October, 2025, with dignitaries, officials, and members of the public expected to attend. In preparation for the large gathering, The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has announced traffic restrictions to ensure the smooth flow of the procession and to provide secure access for family members and delegates. These traffic measures will be in effect from 12pm until 30 minutes after the service.
The day will begin with Sir Edmund’s body lying in state at Government House from 8am to 11am. The official funeral service will follow at the Wesley Methodist Church at 1pm, where tributes will be paid to the former Head of State, who served as Governor General from 2013 to 2015 and is remembered for his decades of service and leadership in St. Kitts and Nevis.
During the state funeral, traffic on Victoria Road will flow in one direction only, from south to north. Parking will be restricted on the western side of Victoria Road between the old Basseterre High School and Seaton Street, as well as on Victoria Road below Seaton Street. Reserved parking on Seaton Street will be available for the immediate family of the deceased, parliamentarians, and other dignitaries.
For the general public, designated parking areas have been set at the Old Girls School grounds, Carnival Village, Tennis Court parking lot, and below the football field via the Marathon Gate. Additionally, no parking will be permitted on Cayon Street between Victoria Road and Springfield Cemetery. Motorists are strongly advised to follow signage and instructions from traffic officers to minimise congestion and ensure safety.
The funeral of Sir Edmund Lawrence is expected to draw large numbers, as the nation comes together to honour his contribution to social and economic development. The traffic restrictions and designated parking arrangements are intended to support an orderly and dignified farewell for the late Governor General.
