Government Expands Public Engagement with Widespread Budget Consultations

The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will host a series of Budget 2026 Community Consultations across the island this October, marking a new phase in public engagement and participatory governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew.

This year, the annual pre-budget dialogue has been expanded from a single national forum to three community consultations, ensuring greater inclusion, accessibility, and citizen participation in the national decision-making process. The consultations will provide residents with a platform to share their ideas, concerns, and recommendations on the policies and priorities shaping the upcoming fiscal year.

The Budget 2026 Community Consultations will take place as follows:

  • Saddlers Primary School, Saddlers – 15th October 2025, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Anglican Church Hall, Sandy Point – 23rd October 2025, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • National Budget Forum, St. Kitts Marriott Resort Ballroom – 29th October 2025, 9:00 AM

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew is expected to present the 2026 Budget to the nation when the National Assembly convenes in December. The consultations will play a key role in shaping the government’s financial agenda and national development priorities for the upcoming year.

Dr. Drew has consistently underscored his administration’s commitment to open dialogue, inclusion, and transparency, emphasising that policies and programmes must reflect the voices and lived experiences of citizens.

“Consultation is not a formality — it is fundamental to how we govern,” Dr. Drew has stated in previous engagements. “Every major decision that impacts our people must be informed by the people.”

Through these expanded consultations, the Government aims to make participation easier for citizens from all communities, encouraging a more balanced and representative conversation on economic development, fiscal policy, and social progress.

Officials from the Ministry of Finance and other key ministries are expected to join the discussions to outline key priorities and respond to public feedback. The exercise forms part of the Government’s ongoing strategy to strengthen good governance and participatory democracy, ensuring that national policies align with the aspirations of citizens across the Federation.

The Dr. Terrance Drew-led Administration has repeatedly signalled its commitment to accountability and inclusivity, viewing the budget process not merely as a financial exercise but as a blueprint for building a Sustainable Island State — one that balances economic growth, social protection, and environmental responsibility.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend and take part in these sessions as the country moves toward a more open, responsive, and people-focused approach to governance.
