Prime Minister Drew Breaks Ground on US$30 Million Symbol of Love Museum and Monuments at Fort Thomas

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew today led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Symbol of Love Museum and Monuments at Fort Thomas, signalling the start of a transformative redevelopment project that will restore and revitalise one of St. Kitts’ most historic sites.

The US$30 million initiative is a partnership between the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and ABL Inc., a regional developer recognised for its innovative tourism projects, including the Dominica Cable Car. The investment marks a new era of cultural preservation and sustainable tourism development on the island.

Prime Minister Drew underscored that the project is not connected to the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme, but rather represents pure foreign direct investment aimed at strengthening the Federation’s tourism and cultural sectors.

“Twenty-six years ago, in 1999, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis acquired this property. For too long, it stood idle. Today, that silence ends,” Dr. Drew said.

The Symbol of Love Museum and Monuments at Fort Thomas will feature a range of attractions designed to position the 8.7-acre property as a world-class cultural and educational destination. Planned facilities include a Caribbean History Museum, an International Museum, a botanical garden with water features, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and souvenir boutiques overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The site will also include a jetty for sea access and replicas of globally significant heritage monuments, honouring historical figures who shaped world history.

Dr. Drew described the project as one that “honours the past while building the future,” explaining that the museum will serve as both a tourism attraction and a learning environment.

“Our students will be able to walk these grounds and learn about Caribbean and world history in a living classroom, while our visitors will gain a deeper appreciation of who we are as a people,” he said.

The Prime Minister further noted that the project aligns closely with the Federation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA) and its tourism brand “Venture Deeper,” which encourages travellers to explore the authentic cultural and historical experiences of St. Kitts.

“Today, as we turn this soil, we breathe life back into Fort Thomas,” Dr. Drew declared. “We are restoring its purpose — to serve our people, to educate our students, to welcome our visitors, and to inspire generations yet to come.”

Once completed, the Symbol of Love Museum and Monuments at Fort Thomas is expected to become a major pillar of St. Kitts’ cultural tourism product, creating jobs, boosting economic activity, and strengthening the Federation’s reputation as a sustainable, heritage-driven destination.
