PM Drew Welcomes Star of the Seas to St. Kitts and Nevis

Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, has described the inaugural visit of Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, as a defining moment for the Federation’s tourism sector and a powerful symbol of progress under the government’s sustainable development agenda.

The ship made its first call to Port Zante on Thursday, 23rd October, 2025, where an official plaque exchange ceremony was held to commemorate the occasion. Addressing the event, Prime Minister Drew said the arrival of the Star of the Seas reflected the Federation’s growing appeal as a premier Caribbean destination and the success of efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure and visitor experiences.

“This inaugural call signals a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and responsible growth,” Dr. Drew stated. “The Star of the Seas has been designed to be among the most efficient ships in operation, advancing the goal of destination net zero and Royal Caribbean’s target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. These efforts mirror our own ambitions under the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA), and together we are charting a course for a greener, more resilient future.”

He added that St. Kitts and Nevis’ tourism strategy continues to evolve through sustainability-driven investments and partnerships aimed at balancing growth with environmental stewardship.

Dr. Drew extended a warm welcome to the vessel’s passengers and crew, expressing optimism that the call would strengthen ties between the Federation and Royal Caribbean. “We are proud to share this historic moment and to reaffirm our place as one of the most attractive destinations in the region. The best place to be in the Caribbean, any time of the year, is St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said.

The arrival of the Star of the Seas underscores the Federation’s expanding capacity to host next-generation cruise vessels and its commitment to positioning tourism as a key pillar of sustainable national development.
