Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake Off Guadeloupe Jolts Eastern Caribbean

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake off Guadeloupe rattled the Eastern Caribbean early this morning, 27th October 2025, at approximately 8:38 AM. The tremor, centred 255 kilometres northeast of Antigua and Barbuda, was felt across a wide swathe of the region, affecting several countries and territories including Saint Kitts and Nevis and Dominica.

According to preliminary data from regional seismic networks, the quake originated offshore at a depth of approximately 35 kilometres. Residents across the affected countries have since reported aftershocks and those closest to the epicentre have been urged to inspect their properties for and other infrastructure for damage.

No casualties or major structural damage have been confirmed as of this report.

This morning’s earthquake was one of the strongest seismic events recorded in the region this year.

The Caribbean is no stranger to seismic activity, sitting atop several tectonic plate boundaries. However, the tremmor this morning underscores the importance of regional preparedness and coordinated response efforts.
