The Government of St. Kitts & Nevis has announced a contribution of USD $100,000 to assist the Government and people of Jamaica in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa—the Category 5 storm that made landfall in Jamaica and left widespread devastation. Prime Minister Dr Terrance M. Drew confirmed the pledge, emphasising that this support reflects the Federation’s deep sense of regional solidarity and its commitment to collective resilience across the Caribbean.
“The Government and people of St. Kitts & Nevis stand firmly with Jamaica during this challenging time,” he said, adding, “This financial support is a symbol of our shared resilience, and commitment to one another as a Caribbean family.”
Beyond the government contribution, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to individuals, private organisations and businesses across St. Kitts & Nevis to partner in further assisting Jamaica as it begins the long road to rebuilding communities and restoring normalcy.
Officials said St. Kitts & Nevis remains in close contact with the Government of Jamaica and regional partners to ensure all assistance is channelled efficiently and effectively as part of a coordinated response effort.
Recovery efforts in Jamaica are under way. In the hardest-hit western parishes, communities are still isolated, power remains out to significant numbers of households, and key infrastructure—such as hospitals and major roads—have sustained critical damage.
The pledge from St. Kitts & Nevis joins a growing list of regional and international contributions. The United Kingdom, for example, confirmed a £2.5 million (approximately USD $3.36 million) emergency aid package including shelter kits, water filters and blankets to support Jamaica’s recovery efforts.
For St. Kitts & Nevis, the gesture is in line with the Federation’s broader vision of “Turning Conversations into Action: Building Our Sustainable Island State Together.” It underscores the concept of Caribbean nations acting in solidarity—not only when disaster strikes, but in the rebuilding that follows.
