Manufacturing Revival Takes Shape as Government Tours New Green Valley Facility

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Minister of Investment, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, toured the industrial area at Green Valley, Cayon, on Tuesday as construction continues on a new manufacturing facility expected to play a key role in the Federation’s economic diversification strategy.

The visit focused on assessing progress at the factory, which is being developed by longstanding investor Mahesh Nariani and is slated to manufacture water storage tanks, gutters and other PVC-based products for local use.

Once operational, the facility will supply water tanks of varying sizes for residential, commercial and agricultural purposes, supporting national efforts to improve water storage and resilience, particularly as desalination capacity expands and water drilling continues across the Federation.

Prime Minister Drew first disclosed plans for the manufacturing plant during his first Roundtable of 2026, where he signalled a renewed focus on rebuilding the manufacturing sector as part of a broader strategy to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen domestic production.

At a recent press conference, the Prime Minister said the project represents a concrete step in restoring manufacturing as a viable contributor to the national economy.

He noted that the facility will not only meet local demand for essential infrastructure products but will also create jobs, support skills development and stimulate economic activity within the industrial sector.

The plant is also expected to contribute to water harvesting initiatives, with the production of gutters and related components designed to complement rainwater collection systems, enhancing household and community water security.

Government officials have said the Green Valley project reflects a deliberate shift toward value-added production, aligning manufacturing with national priorities in water, housing and infrastructure development.

The Prime Minister has previously emphasised that the revival of manufacturing is central to building a more resilient economy, alongside investments in energy, agriculture and technology.

Officials say the Green Valley facility is one of several initiatives intended to modernise the productive sector and translate policy commitments into tangible economic outcomes for citizens.

Construction is ongoing, with the government indicating that additional updates will be provided as the project moves closer to the start of operations.
